TB Skin Test
Tuberculosis Skin Testing
Tuberculosis (TB) skin testing is a diagnostic procedure used to identify individuals who may have been exposed to the bacteria that causes TB, a highly contagious respiratory disease. At our clinic, we offer this quick and simple test to help you know your TB status, safeguard your health, and protect those around you from potential exposure.
Service Questions
-
Knowing your TB status helps protect your health and prevents the spread of the disease to others, especially those at higher risk.
-
A TB Skin Test is a 2-step process.
First appointment: A healthcare practitioner uses a tiny needle to inject a small amount of a test substance called Tubersol® under the top layer of skin on your forearm.
Second appointment: You return to the clinic 48 to 72 hours later to show your skin's reaction to the injection. People with TB get a raised, red, firm reaction at the site where the Tubersol® was injected.
-
Most people find the test to be quick and minimally uncomfortable, with only minor soreness or swelling at the injection site as a common side effect.
-
If you're negative, we will help you fill out the relevant paperwork for your school or work. If you're positive, we will help you arrange further confirmatory testing including a chest X-ray, and treatment if required.
